I Made My Last Two Big Purchases For Our Bedroom

So over the last few months, I’ve purchased the grasscloth wallpaper, an area rug, velvet fabric for the draperies, and headboard fabric. We already have a dresser that I’m going to repaint and reuse. I’ll need to build a base for the bed. And just within the last couple of days, I decided to stick with the picture frame molding style of wainscoting.

Everything is falling into place for our bedroom. The door installation is still in progress. (There was a delay as one of the men injured his back on another job, but I’m hoping it will be done by the end of the day on Friday.) I have a plan for how to finish up the attic access in the bedroom. The breaker box has been moved up. I’ve been working on the wall prep in the foyer. I measured and mapped out exactly where to start the grasscloth installation so that I have just enough to cover all of the walls. I have a plan for the ceiling light in the foyer.

It seems like all of the big decisions had been made, most everything had been purchased, and work is underway. But I just needed to make two more big decisions — bedside tables and recliner. Remember the recliner I wanted for the bedroom? As of yesterday morning, I still hadn’t purchased it because I just couldn’t bring myself to make a decision on the color.

So yesterday, instead of continuing to kick those cans down the road, I made myself sit down and make those last two decisions.

I had narrowed down the bedside tables to two options. This one from Wayfair (affiliate link)…

I ended up going with the ones from Houzz (the ones just above), and the purchase has been made. They’re pretty similar in size and they both have three drawers. So the determining factors were the colors, the style of the feet, and the pull out shelf.

I do wish that the feet on the ones I chose were round turned feet instead of square, but that’s not a big deal. And while the color of the ones I chose look a little more orange, the room will have a lot of orange in it, so I think that will work better than what appears to be a green undertone on the first one. But really, it’s that pull-out tray that sold me. I think that will be convenient to sit things on at night, like a glass of water, glasses, a book, etc., while not cluttering up the top.

And then there’s the recliner. I had told myself that as soon as Interior Define had another 25% off sale, I’d make the purchase. And yesterday, there was an email in my inbox announcing a 25% off sitewide sale for Labor Day. So I made myself hit that “purchase” button on the Interior Define Jude recliner (affiliate link) that I’ve wanted for so long now. I had narrowed this down to two colors (from the original ten or so samples that I had ordered), and in the end, I went with the performance velvet in the color French.

I had narrowed it down to the French color and one other teal color that was a little bit darker. The other color I was considering is called Sapphire. The crazy thing is that the sample I have doesn’t look nearly as dark as it does on their website. Here’s the website picture of Sapphire.

That looks really dark. The sample I have looks only slightly darker than the French velvet. But that dark picture on the website kind of scared me away from the Sapphire.

So I decided to go with the lighter French color. I think I’ll like the contrast between the lighter French color and the dark tones of the grasscloth and dark teal velvet draperies. I don’t want all of my teals to perfectly match. There has to be some variation somewhere. And the French color is what’s shown in my mockup of the room at the top of this post.

With those last two purchases, all of the big decisions have been made, and all of the bit items have been purchased. Now I just need to get this wall prep done (which will take a few more days, no doubt), and then I can start on crown molding, wainscoting, and grasscloth.
