Bedroom Suite Progress – It’s Almost F...

I had a goal to completely finish our bedroom suite (not including the storage room, obviously) by the end of this month. And I actually think that’s going to happen! I’m down to the last few small projects, so over the last few days, I decided to put my nose to the grindstone and see just how many I could get checked off of my list.

I started with the ones I dreaded the most just to get those over and done with. First up, the bedroom doors. Ever since I installed these doors, the doors have been almost impossible to close because they were just a tiny bit too wide to fit into the opening. When I first installed them, they closed well. But our house, built on a pier and beam foundation and shifty soil, is always moving and shifting ever so slightly throughout the year, so soon after I installed them, they started getting stuck and wouldn’t close all the way.

So I had to remove one of the doors, cut it down on my table saw, reinstall it, and add a new piece of vertical trim where the doors meet. Thank goodness my mom was here to help me with that! There’s no way I could have cut down that door on my table saw by myself since all I have is a small jobsite table saw.

But we got it cut down, and the I got it reinstalled, and now the doors close very easily. I can finally get the paint touched up (and the new trim painted), install the door pulls and door lock, and “frost” the glass for privacy.

Next up, see if you can pinpoint what’s now gone from this photo…

Yes, I finally moved our router! This thing has been sitting on the floor right here in the foyer ever since I removed the hallway cabinets. That was over a year ago. So the router had become a fixture in the hallway ever since, with its unsightly cable hanging down to the floor.

I dreaded this because I had to get up in the attic to move it, and I hate getting into the attic. But I was determined to get all of these dreaded projects done that I had been procrastinating on because I dreaded them. It only took about 30 minutes, and now the router is located in the hallway bathroom (soon-to-be storage room). That will be the perfect location for it once that room is done.

The biggest project that I had been dreading was replacing the water damaged grasscloth wallpaper in the foyer.

Unlike moving the router, which I dreaded and then it only took 30 minutes, this one wasn’t so fast. It wasn’t difficult at all (nothing like removing wallpaper from the 80s and 90s), but it still took about four hours over two days to get it finished. But it was worth the time and effort because now it looks good as new.

Here it is with a little peek of the bird pillow. I love that fabric so much, and I’ll be using it on one more piece of the bedding that will be pretty prominent. So stay tuned for that.

And finally, I got our new monstrous 65-inch TV hung on the wall. This new TV was the only requested change that Matt asked for, so I was happy to oblige. It actually doesn’t look as big and imposing now that it’s hung on the wall.

I still need to paint the cord cover and then stick it to the wall. I hung the TV high enough so that I could put things on the dresser without it covering the screen. I have to admit that I absolutely love this TV. And I’ve changed my mind about making a frame for it. This TV is much thinner than our previous TVs, so it actually sits close enough to the wall that there’s no ugly side view. So that’s another project marked off (or removed, actually) from my “to do” list.

In addition to those projects, I also worked on the draperies more. Those are feeling like the never-ending project, but I’m so close to being done. I just have to put the pleats in the last panel (which happens to be one of the double-width panels for the door), and then I have to hem all four panels, and they’ll be done. So, y’all, I’m actually on track to meet my goal of finishing our bedroom suite by the end of this month! It will feel so great to have this massive project DONE!

In other news, Tiger is adapting to spending more and more time indoors. He still wants to go outside during the day, but he’s gradually spending less and less time outside. I used to let him out in the morning and then I wouldn’t see him until about 9:00pm. But lately, he’s been showing up at the back studio doors at random times of the day wanting me to let him inside. He still doesn’t get along with Felicity or Cooper, although Cooper has calmed down quite a bit around tiger. But any time he gets too close, Tiger swats and hisses at Cooper. He does the same with Felicity. But I think in time, they’ll all get used to each other.
